Becoming Real, Reels Reaching New Heights & Instagram Privacy Fears.
Bereal Reaches Over 10 Million Active Users 📱
The latest rising social media app - BeReal has now reportedly hit over 10 million users which is a huge rise from just over 10,000 users a little over a year ago. The app has been described as the anti-Instagram with a focus on raw, unfiltered everyday life. Is there room for brands to join the app? Perhaps, as long as the brands don’t intrude too much on the user’s experience. It could be a good way for brands to build an enhanced connection and community by providing BTS content and valuable insights. BeReal doesn’t currently allow formal advertising on the platform but this could definitely be on the cards as the app continues to scale upwards.
TikTok Testing New Nearby Content Feed 📍
TikTok has confirmed that it’s currently testing a new ‘Nearby’ content feed which would sit along the ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ tabs. It’s anticipated that this new feed will display content posted by users in your current location. This could be a significant update for brands to consider, providing businesses with a large, engaged audience that are nearby to promote to.
New Report Show That Reels Are Generating the Most Reach on Instagram 🎞
A new report from HypeAuditor has provided valuable insight into just how key video content is to engage users on Instagram. This report analysed 77.6 million Instagram posts in July 2022 to measure engagement trends based on post type. Unsurprisingly, the findings show that Reels are the best way of maximising engagement and reach. If you haven’t already, it’s definitely worth considering Reels in your Instagram strategy.
Instagram Location Privacy Fears 🔍
You may have seen some viral infographics floating around last week warning iPhone users about Instagram’s latest update that allows other people to see your exact location. However, these infographics have since been called out for misinformation with the official Instagram creators account releasing their own statement: "We don't share your location with others," the post said. "People can manage Location Services via their device settings, and tag locations on their posts if they want to share that information."
Despite the misinformation, perhaps this hysteria is a timely reminder to encourage users to be mindful of what they share on social media and who can see what you’re posting.
