Social in Sixty: Tiktok time limits, new tech updates and creative work.

Welcome to this week's Social in Sixty, where we share news and updates from the social media world. This week, we're talking about Tiktok time limits, new tech updates and the latest creative work that grabbed our attention!

TikTok time limit ⏳

TikTok has announced an automatic 60-minute daily screen time limit for all users under 18 years old.

In order to create a TikTok account, users have to be at least 13 years old, and if a younger user exceeds the new 60-minute limit, they'll be asked to enter a passcode set by their parents to enable just 30 more minutes of watch time. If it's anything like the time limits we set on our mobile apps, I suspect most users will simply enter the passcode and continue with their scoll.

Tiktok updates

Tiktok is launching Sounds for Business, a collection of sounds that are designed as templates for easy marketing content creation. The collection includes a mix of voiceover, music and other sound cues to help small brands create engaging content quickly and at a smaller cost. The new collection is available in TikTok’s Commercial Music Library and can be used across organic and paid content to highlight products and engage new audiences. The new update is timely as TikTok has continued to venture into the field of advertising and marketing.

Earlier this month, it added new targeting and boosting features for its Promote advertising tool. Given TikTok’s interest in asserting itself as an e-commerce platform, it’s no surprise that it’s looking to expand its advertising and marketing suite.

Also in beta mode this week, Tiktok is trialing the ability to save a video to your camera roll without the TikTok watermark, enabling us to use all the content creator features in app and repurpose the content across other platforms without degrading the quality. This new feature will be music to any content creator’s ears!

Instagram updates

New Instagram features spotted this week include the ability to add music to carousel posts and a video trimmer for Stories. These are welcomed additions to the everchanging app!

The shortest ad on record 🥫

Blink and you’ll miss it. Coming in at 0.57 seconds long, Heinz’s has broken the record of the shortest ad.
Once paused or played back at a slower speed, the super-short ad reveals a hidden voucher code that takes $5 off of DoorDash orders, reminding consumers that good things come to those who wait.

Let us know what other food brands you've seen nailing it recently.
